Kennedy and the Cold Warriors: The Case for a "Big" Conspiracy

In Oliver Stone’s fictionalized movie JFK, “Mr. X” outlines the full dimensions of the conspiracy behind the Kennedy assassination. A conspiracy that reached, he says, into the highest levels of our military and intelligence communities: A conspiracy that in fact constitutes a “secret team” within our own government, exercising tremendous power and escaping all democratic controls. For years many of us resisted this kind of “big” conspiracy theory. Surely such contempt for our constitution and democratic traditions, and for human life itself, could at most be limited to a small group of “rogue” operatives acting without authority. Over the decades since the assassination, thanks to the Freedom of Information Act and the dedicated efforts of some fine historians and researchers, a detailed and well documented history of the Kennedy years and the Cold War in general has emerged that is darker and more alarming than any work of fiction. The 911 Truth Movement

The 911 Truth movement is a loose coalition millions of concerned citizens in the United States and worldwide who believe that the attacks of September 11, 2001 could not possibly have succeeded without determined high-level assistance and support inside the US government. While there is a range of opinion within the movement, Col. Robert Bowman has succinctly summarized a widely held position:

"A lot of these pieces of information, taken together, prove that the official story, the official conspiracy theory of 9/11 is a bunch of hogwash. It’s impossible… There’s a second group of facts having to do with the cover up… Taken together these things prove that high levels of our government don’t want us to know what happened and who’s responsible.

"Who gained from 9/11? Who covered up crucial information about 9/11? And who put out the patently false stories about 9/11 in the first place? When you take those three things together, I think the case is pretty clear that it’s highly placed individuals in the administration with all roads passing through Dick Cheney."

Col. Bowman is only one of hundreds of distinguished Americans from all walks of life who are energetically speaking out on this issue.

Victims Families Groups

From the beginning family members of those who died in the attacks of September 11 have been a powerful force in the Truth Movement. Four women who lost their husbands - Kristen Breitweiser, Patty Casazza, Mindy Kleinberg, and Lorie Van Auken - banded together. They came to be known as the "Jersey Girls", as they waged a tireless campaign in the media and in Congress, demanding a full investigation.

After a long struggle they succeeded in compelling an official investigation of 9-11 over the vigorous opposition of the Bush administration. Then when the 9-11 Commission was formed they served on the Family Steering Committee, which monitored the Commission and demanded that it definively resolve the myriad unanswered questions, many of which seemed to indicate that 9-11 was an inside job.

Ultimately they were bitterly disappointed. In the words of Patty Cassava, "We got platitudes, we got rhetoric, and we got lies ... it [The Report of the 911 Commission] was a complete fabrication."

Bill Doyle, who lost his son Joseph Doyle on September 11, is the founder of the largest support group for 911 families. He emphatically agrees with Patty Casazza's assessment.

"I honestly don’t believe the government story ... The 9/11 Commission report doesn't even begin to get at the truth ... I've heard so many stories from whistle blowers, compelling stories that need to be told that have been silenced by the government and the media"

National Security Whistleblowers

Patty Cassava has described very specific and damning information regarding insider foreknowledge of the attacks provided to her as a representative of the victims' families by government insiders.

"We met other whistle-blowers. They had information ... the Government knew... other than the exact moment... cause planes don't always go off on time ... they knew the date, and the method of which the attacks were supposed to come ... that it was going to be with airplanes ... They knew the targets"

She goes on to explain that the whistleblowers must remain anonymous because of government regulations and laws regarding the disclosure of classified information. They dare not speak out publicly unless they are subpoenaed, and thus "compelled" to testify under oath regarding September 11. These whistle blowers offered to testify before the 911 Commission, but they were turned away.

After the release of the Commission's report 25 of these highly placed national security experts wrote an open letter to the U.S. Congress protesting the Commission's "intentional avoidance of assigning accountability" for the many apparent breakdowns in our national security apparatus associated with September 11. They offered once again to provide their own personal knowledge and expertise for a genuine investigation. They made it very clear that they would reveal not merely incompetence, but criminality.

"When calling for accountability, we are referring not to quasi-innocent mistakes caused by 'lack of imagination' or brought about by ordinary 'human error.' Rather, we refer to intentional actions or inaction by individuals responsible for our national security, actions or inaction dictated by motives other than the security of the people of the United States.

In an interview with the Baltimore Chronicle & Sentinel one of the signatories of the letter, Sibel Edmonds, Founder and President of the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition stated:

"If they were to do real investigations we would see several significant high level criminal prosecutions in this country. And that is something that they are not going to let out. And, believe me; they will do everything to cover this up."

Internet Pioneers

To this point serious research and investigation of the 9-11 atrocities has been almost entirely excluded from official government channels and from the corporate media. The internet has played a key role in allowing the growth of 9-11 Truth as a true grassroots, democratic movement. Of the hundreds of talented people responsible for this development I want to single out Paul Thompson and Jim Hoffman for having played key roles.

Thomson's 911 Timeline is an invaluable resource that has been credited by almost all of the major researchers. The timeline is part of the stellar Cooperative Research website, which integrates the contributions of several researchers. The 9-11 Timeline has also been published in book form by Harper Collins as The Terror Timeline

Jim Hoffman has researched many aspects of the case, but his work on the controlled demolition of the World Trade Center Towers has been especially important. Hoffman's research is available on the 9-11 Research website.

Professional Organizations

Professional organizations of concerned citizens with professional qualifications in relevant disciplines play an important role in the growth and development of the 911 Truth Movement.

Architects and engineers are uniting to demonstrate that the two World Trace Center towers and a third steel-framed skyscraper, World Trade Center Building 7, could not have collapsed as they did without the use of explosives

Scholars for 911 Truth and Justice (663 members)

Scholars and scientists from a variety of fields are bringing to light compelling evidence that September 11 was a covert operation perpetrated by elements inside our own government.

These organizations frequently arrange talks and conferences aimed at raising awareness of these issues and presenting new developments.

Increasing Awareness

One of the first prominent scholars to speak out about 911 Truth in a very effective way was one of our leading theologians, David Ray Griffin. Griffin's work is indebted to earlier work by Nafeez Ahmed, Paul Thompson, and Jim Hoffman, and others, but Griffin has probably done more than anyone else to make the evidence accesible to a mainstream audience. A major breakthrough came when Griffin came to the University of Wisconsin at Madison to give a talk in April, 2005. He was greeted by an overflow crowd of students and professors, many of whom were already very well informed and suspicious of the government story.

Then in July of 2005 Representative Cynthia McKinney held hearings in the Cannon House Office Building on the anniversary of the release of the 911 Commission Report. Witnesses included the Jersey Girls, Paul Thompson, Nafeez Ahmed, and former intelligence officers, diplomats, politicians and academics. The report was condemned as a coverup, and evidence that 9-11 was an inside job was freely discussed. The hearings were recorded and televised by C-SPAN.

Another breakthrough came in February 2006 when one of our leading physicists, Steven Jones of Brigham Young University, endorsed and extended Jim Hoffman's work indicating that the World Trade Center towers had been brought down by controlled demolition using explosives. Since the McKinney hearings in 2005, many 9-11 Truth events have been held across the country and around the world, bringing together whistle-blowers, the victims' families, professionals in relevant disciplines, and activists and the general public. The explosion of this truly grassroots movement is a ray of hope in our otherwise barren political landscape.

Welcome! My name is Tim Howells. I'm an American citizen, currently living and working in Sweden. My professional background is in computer science and medical research. You can contact me at tim@timhowells.com.

This website will be devoted to political history and the effects of the strategy of tension on our current political predicament. I hope that the articles listed on the Front Page will provide a good introduction.

The title of this website, "The 911 Agenda," comes from a talk given by Patty Casazza, who lost her husband John F. Casazza when the North Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed. Her talk can be viewed in the Screening Room. Speaking of government foreknowledge of the attacks, as described to her by whistleblowers, Casazza says:

And I... I believe 9/11 was basically about politics. And agendas. Not my agenda. Not your agenda. So we became part of somebody else's agenda. And that's what we have not... what has not been investigated. What that agenda was. Why it happened, and how it happened.

So let's get going. We owe it to the victims of these atrocities and to ourselves and to future generations to investigate these questions and to follow the evidence wherever it may lead.
